The first international ENTRUST conference will take place on 8–11 September 2026 at the Lithuanian Energy Institute, gathering researchers, innovators, industry leaders, and policymakers to explore technological solutions driving the global energy transformation.

Celebrating 70 years of scientific journey

A particularly meaningful part of the programme will be the opening day, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Lithuanian Energy Institute (LEI). This occasion invites participants to look back on the Institute's 70-year journey and its enduring contribution to the development of energy research in Lithuania and the Baltic region.

The origins of LEI date back to 1 October 1956, when several laboratories of the Physics and Technical Institute of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences were reorganized into the Institute of Energy and Electrical Engineering in Kaunas. This marked the beginning of a focused institutional effort to address complex energy challenges through science and engineering. Over time, the institute evolved further: in 1967 it was renamed the Institute of Physical-Technical Energy Problems, reflecting an expanding scientific agenda and growing specialization in energy systems.

Shaping the future of energy in Lithuania and beyond

Following the restoration of Lithuania’s independence, the institute underwent a major transformation to align with the needs of a newly sovereign state. In 1992, it was granted the status of a national research institution and received its current name – the Lithuanian Energy Institute. From that point onward, LEI increasingly focused on strategic national priorities, including energy security, sustainability, and technological modernization.

Today, LEI is one of the leading energy research centres in the Baltic region. Its activities cover both fundamental and applied research across a broad spectrum of fields, ranging from nuclear safety to hydrogen technologies, renewable energy integration, energy storage systems, and energy efficiency solutions. The Institute integrates theoretical and experimental research in ten laboratories equipped with advanced infrastructure.

Bringing together different perspectives

In response to the growing demand for dialogue on energy transformation, the Lithuanian Energy Institute has initiated the first ENTRUST Conference, bringing together visionary scientists, innovators, and decision-makers to share research, exchange ideas, and collaborate across disciplines.

The conference aims to unite the broader energy research and innovation community for constructive dialogue on the challenges of modern energy systems and potential solutions, promoting interdisciplinary cooperation and fostering innovation for a sustainable future.

The conference program will highlight emerging research directions, novel technological approaches, and integrative solutions that contribute to resilient, efficient, and sustainable energy systems. By fostering dialogue between fundamental and applied research, ENTRUST seeks to promote interdisciplinary, international collaboration and lasting partnerships.
